Q. How is Right Track YJ2 different from YJ1?
A. Right Track YJ2 offers paid internships in business, management, administration, finance, healthcare, law and more. Right Track YJ2 internships are with some Saint Paul’s largest employers including US Bank, Xcel Energy, Region’s Hospital, the State of Minnesota and many more. Right Track YJ2 interns also receive weekly skills training during the summer.
Q. What kind of jobs are available through YJ2?
A. Right Track YJ2 internships are offered at dozens of Saint Paul businesses like Ecolab, Xcel Energy, Keystone Community Services, McGough, Children’s MN and many more.
Q. How much do Right Track YJ2 internships pay? How many hours will interns work?
A. As of January 1 2022, Right Track YJ2 internships pay a minimum of $13.00 per hour but many employers pay their interns more than that. YJ2 interns can expect to work anywhere from 15 to 40 hours per week depending on the job.
Q. How do YJ2 Interns get paid?
A. YJ2 interns are primarily paid directly by the employer partners. Employers are asked to provide:
- A minimum wage of $13.00 per hour
- Between 15 and 40 hours of work per week
- 6 to 9 weeks of paid employment between mid-June and mid-August
- Human resources management (i.e. employment verification, time cards, payroll)
Q. Do employers need to be located in Saint Paul to host a Right Track Intern?
A. Employers do not need to be located in Saint Paul to host interns. We do take accessibility with public transportation into consideration as we place interns.
Q. How to I apply to host a Right Track Intern?
A. If you are a new employer you can pledge to host a Right Track intern on our Right Track Hub. If you are a returning employer you can log into the Right Track hub and update your job posting or contact Nardos.tesfalidet@ci.stpaul.mn.us
Q. How many interns can I host?
A. We do not have a limit on the number of interns an employer partner can host, that depends on the employers capacity to host interns. With that being said, we do ask that employers consider hosting more than one intern or hosting a cohort of interns. There are many benefits for interns to have a peer network during their internship.
Q. Can we host the same interns for multiple summer programs?
A. Yes, some interns do return to the same placement. It would need to be mutually agreed upon by both the employer and the intern.
Q. Can my intern stay on throughout the school year?
A. Yes, some internships go into the fall or throughout the school year if the intern has the availability and interest. You will want to take into consideration their limited availability due to school, sports, or other commitments.
