Construction Updates
Construction on the North End Community Center building began in Spring 2023 on the east side of the park, along Rice Street. Throughout the summer and fall the building structure was completed and interior work began. Additionally, earthwork continued on site including soil corrections and installation of an underground stormwater retention system.

We raised the roof on Saint Paul's newest community center on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 3:45 p.m. to celebrate the construction progress of the new North End Community Center.

About the North End Community Center
The North End Community Center project includes construction of a new 25,000 square foot building and enhancements to the existing 6-acre park in Saint Paul's North End neighborhood. The new building will be located at 145 Lawson Avenue West, near the Rice Street Library and directly across the park from Wellstone Elementary School. Scroll down to subscribe to project updates.
This project will provide improved access to new state-of-the-art amenities to encourage social and physical activity in the community. These shared spaces include multi-purpose community rooms, a teaching kitchen, youth ("Rec Check") and teen rooms, a gymnasium, dance room, fitness room, study room, outdoor courtyard and more.
Enhancements to the park include a new multi-use artificial turf field, playground area, sepak takraw/badminton courts, picnic areas, underground storm water treatment, off-street parking, paved plaza, lighting, accessibility improvements, and additional non-programmed green space.

North End Community Center Design Studies and Renderings
Sustainable
The North End Community Center aims to be a leader in sustainability. Included in the design is an on-site geothermal well field for ground source heating and cooling and a roof-mounted solar array for on-site energy production. The project is following guidelines of the State of Minnesota's B3 sustainability program which includes strategies to analyze, manage, and reduce energy use.
Project Background
The City of Saint Paul has partnered with Snow Kreilich Architects for improvements to the park and community center. The design and community engagement process began in 2019 and continued throughout 2020. After construction began in 2023, an 18-month construction timeline is anticipated leading to a potential building opening in late 2024.
