Saint Paul police officers responding to reports of a death investigation found a woman dead early Sunday, Jan.23.
The calls to 911 came in at about 12:30 a.m., and when officers got to the residence on the 1400 block of Dale Street North, they found a disturbing scene inside—an unresponsive 67-year-old woman who was badly beaten.
Officers secured the scene called for Saint Paul Fire medics, who arrived a short time later and pronounced the woman dead without transporting her to a hospital.
A man believed to be the victim's husband was on scene when officers arrived. Officers were able to quickly determine he was the suspect. He was detained and transported to police headquarters to be interviewed by investigators. Arvid Harry Johnson, 66, was later booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.
The department’s Forensic Service Unit will process the scene and the Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine her exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.
This is the fifth homicide in Saint Paul this year.
