Mayor Carter Announces ‘Summer Swarm’ STEM-Focused Youth Programs and Pop-Up Events this Summer

Dozens of STEM-Focused Programs and Pop-Up Events for Youth to be Held at Libraries, Recreation Centers and Parks through August

SAINT PAUL, MN - Today, Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter announced the launch of Summer Swarm, a series of free STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) youth programs and pop-up events to be held at Saint Paul Libraries, Recreation Centers and Parks through August. Summer Swarm is part of Mayor Carter’s Tech for All initiative, focused on accelerating Saint Paul’s digital economy by connecting residents of color and women to wealth building job opportunities — many that are currently going unfilled — and investing in tech-based education for Saint Paul’s future workforce.

“Summer Swarm activities provide an array of opportunities to spark interest, and engage our youth as they learn, grow, and prepare to join our 21st century workforce,” said Melvin Mayor Carter.

ABOUT SUMMER SWARM
Summer Swarm builds on the success of Tech For All programming last summer which included a series of pop-up gaming and drone racing events in Saint Paul neighborhoods. These events created a safe space for youth who aged out of other recreational opportunities, while sparking interest in STEM careers through engaging, hands-on activities.

Summer Swarm activities this July and August continue this effort with programs and pop-up events that include activities focused on robotics, coding, drone racing, video production, engineering and other STEM topics.
