3.6.1 Federal agencies should continue to study new less than lethal technologies and evaluate their impact on public safety, reducing lethal violence against citizens, constitutionality, and officer safety.
SPPD is committed to excellence
Although a federal agency action item, the Saint Paul Police Department will undertake its own comprehensive review of force tools and deployment for current policing needs, focusing on smart deployment to support criminal investigation and protect life.
In April of 2018, the department implemented a new use-of-force (Response to Resistance and Aggression) policy which was in development for nearly a year. The department presented a draft policy to the community in January and after much interaction, the department published a final version that incorporated more than 50 community ideas.
