Why do organizations request Right Track workers?
Organizations request Right Track workers for a variety of reasons, but some of the most common are because they hope to empower youth with new skills and work experience, they appreciate the extra help/support at their organization for no cost, and they want to create a workforce that is reflective of the changing demographics of Saint Paul.
What kind of support do you offer to supervisors/organizations?
We offer several trainings throughout the summer for supervisors; some are specific to Right Track, other are specific to your professional development as a supervisor working with youth. We also have Program Liaisons and a Project Manager who can visit your site, provide you with additional resources, and can help mediate when–and if–issues arise.
How do we become a YJ1 Provider?
If you are interested in becoming a new YJ1 Provider, contact Program Manager, Dan Aliperto (dan.aliperto@ci.stpaul.mn.us) to discuss the program and if your organization would be a good fit forYJ1.
We will send out information and “Provider Application” requesting summer workers in mid-January and make award announcements in early February
My organization currently has school year Right Track workers, and has always been a summer worksite provider. Do I still have to submit a provider application?
Yes.
There are multiple worksites within my organization. Do we each submit an application?
No. There should be one application for each organization, even if there are multiple worksites. The Provider Application has space to indicate how many worksites you have.
When do we find out if we were awarded Right Track positions?
Award notices will go out in early February.

Eligibility
Do I have to be a youth serving agency in order to host a Right Track worker?
No. We partner with organizations whose mission and vision vary widely from each other. That said, we do want to make sure your worksite and staff are welcoming and inclusive to youth, and will inform you of professional development opportunities as they arise.
Do I have to be a non-profit organization?
No. But if you are a for-profit organization, you may align better with our YJ2 internship program. To learn more about YJ02, please check out our YJ2 page .
Important Dates 2023
If we are selected as a provider, what dates would we want to keep in mind? Please keep in mind all are subject to change based on current events.
December
- December 30: YJ1 Pledges are due
January
- January 17: Youth Application opens
- January 20: Provider allotments will be finalized
- January 31: YJ1 Organizations Training (learn about timeline, recruitment support, role of job coaches, introduce new Right Track staff, career exploration videos)
February
- February 17: Employer Job Descriptions are Due. Must be completed in the Right Track Hub
- February 24: Employer Promo Videos are Due
- February 28: Last Day for youth to apply - the application closed March 1
March
- Mid-March through March 31: Youth Pre-Employment Trainings (various dates, more info coming soon)
April
- April 4: Career Exploration Day (location and time TBD). An event to connect employers with youth looking to get hired
- April 5-14: Employers will host Youth interviews and submitted finalized hires to Right Track.
- April 21: All Matches to be due
May
- Early May Mandatory Supervisor Training (Date & Time TBD). We'll go over time cards, safety. focus cards, child labor laws, best practices in youth development
- All of May: Payroll paperwork is being completed online by youth. Multiple paperwork help sessions will be announced later
June
- June 12-16 Youth Orientation (worksites can/should provide up to 3 hours of orientation training this week to all new hires, and is paid for by Right Track)
- June 19 Juneteenth Holiday (No work for city employees, including all YJ1 Right Track interns)
- June 20: First day of work for most interns (Tuesday)
July
- July 4: Holiday (No work for city employees, including all YJ1 Right Track interns)
August
- Mid-Aug: End of Summer Celebration
- August 18 last day of the YJ1 Summer Internship Program. (last day of work)
The Hiring Process
How do we get workers?
After interviewing interested applicants you will extend job offers to those you wish to hire. You will inform Right Track those that accept your offer and we will verify with those young people they have accepted your position and “Matched” with your job.
