Fire Prevention and Safety
- Install and maintain working smoke alarms
- Plan and practice a fire escape
- Make sure children practice what to do
- Never leave cooking or candles unattended
- Keep cooking surfaces clean and free from grease
- Never smoke in bed or while taking medications that may make you drowsy
- Keep combustibles away from heat sources
- Keep matches and lighters out of children’s sight
- Keep space heaters at least three feet from anything that can burn
- Run cold water over burned skin and nothing else (if the skin is blistered or charred, see your doctor immediately)
- Keep an eye on your electrical items and notice the warning signs of an unsafe electrical system
- Smoke rises, so crawl on the floor to stay under the smoke
- Stop, drop, and roll if your clothes catch on fire
