Hamline Avenue Resurfacing

The project has been completed with the exception of punch-list items which will be completed intermittently.

• Pavement striping and sign installation has been completed.

This Week

• Completed concrete work.
• Completed manhole adjustments.
• Milled and paved Hamline Avenue from Randolph Avenue to Highland Parkway.
   

Next Week

• Expected completion of asphalt-patching in alleys and driveways on Monday, August 29.
• Restoration of boulevards consisting of grading, placement of dirt, and hydro-seed.
• Pavement striping and marking is tentatively planned for Friday or Saturday (September 2/3).
• All work is weather permitting.
   

Traffic and Pedestrian Notes

• Hamline Avenue from Randolph Avenue to Highland Parkway is a construction zone and should be navigated with elevated awareness.
• Vehicles to follow the flow of traffic as directed by cones, barrels, and barriers.
• Pedestrian traffic will be impacted only where boulevard restoration work is occurring.
• Please observe posted “No Parking” signs.

This Week

• Completed most of the sidewalk installation on the west side of Hamline Avenue from Randolph Avenue to Highland Parkway.
• Began sidewalk removal and replacement on the east side of Hamline Avenue.
• Completed tree removals and stump-grinding.
   

Next Week

• Complete remaining sidewalk installation on the west side of Hamline Avenue from Randolph Avenue to Highland Parkway.
• Patch asphalt on the east side of Hamline Avenue.
• Adjust manholes where needed.
• Undertake roadway milling and paving.

• Vehicles to follow the flow of traffic as directed by cones, barrels, and barriers.
• Pedestrian traffic will be moved to the west side of Hamline Avenue where work on the east side is occurring. 
• Traffic will be impacted for approximately two weeks, but no detours are planned.
• Please observe posted “No Parking” signs.

• Prepared sidewalk and curb for concrete installation.

• Please slow down while driving through the construction area(s); local schools will be/are starting fall sports and activities.
• Pedestrian access to Cretin High School, please use Watson Avenue to access Cretin Avenue.
• Pedestrian traffic is directed to the east side of Hamline Avenue where work is being conducted on the west.
• Vehicles need to follow the flow of traffic as directed by cones, barrels, and barriers.
• Anticipated traffic impact is three weeks.
• No parking on Hamline Avenue from Highland Parkway to Juno Avenue. 
• Parking will be available on the east side of Hamline Avenue from Juno Avenue to Randolph Avenue.
• Temporary no parking on this block will be posted 24 hours prior.
• Please observe “No Parking” signs.

Week of August 1, 2022

• Hard surface removals will begin on the west side of Hamline Avenue from Niles Avenue to Highland Parkway beginning the morning of Monday, August 1.

Traffic and Pedestrian Notes

• Pedestrian traffic will be relocated to the east side of Hamline Avenue where removals are being conducted on the west.
• Vehicles will need to follow the flow of traffic as directed by cones, barrels, and barriers.
• Traffic is anticipated to be impacted for approximately three weeks, but no detours are planned.

Starting August 1, 2022, Hamline Avenue from Highland Parkway to Randolph Avenue will be resurfaced with curb extensions (bumpouts) and bike lane striping.

To prevent neighborhood disruption caused by two active construction project phases, the City is delaying the start of Hamline Avenue Resurfacing Project and Griggs-Scheffer Phase 2.

The City’s project team has determined that Griggs-Scheffer Phase 1 reconstruction activity needs to extend into 2021 in order to complete the work. The project team has identified locations where repair or replacement of sanitary sewer pipes and connections are necessary.  This work is not due to an immediate safety concern, and the City is currently evaluating the next steps to undertake and complete the work. The City will provide details, timing, and possible impacts resulting from the extended Phase 1 timeline when that information is finalized. The repair and replacement work should begin in July.

The Hamline Avenue Resurfacing Project has been rescheduled to 2022.

Estimated start and completion dates for Griggs-Scheffer Phase 2 are not available at this time. Phase 2 reconstruction work could begin after Labor Day at the earliest, with the intention that the majority of Phase 2 work be completed in 2022. The City will provide additional details and timing for Griggs-Scheffer Phase 2 and the Hamline Avenue Resurfacing Project when the information is finalized.
