Overview

Parks and Recreation has received Federal and local match funding for the design and construction of the Point Douglas Regional Trail between Battle Creek Regional Park and Interstate 494. A long-range plan for the regional trail was approved in 2022. The project will include design and construction of an off-street shared use trail including signage, stormwater facilities, and installation of site amenities such as lighting, benches, bike racks, and litter receptacles.

A tentative schedule of the project is as follows:

  • Summer/Fall 2024 - Analysis and Design Development
  • Winter/Spring 2025 - Construction documents
  • Summer/Fall 2025 - Approvals and Permitting
  • Winter 2025/2026 - Bidding/contracting
  • Summer 2026 - Construction

We are beginning the design process with gathering base information, preparing an inventory and analysis, and coordinating stakeholders. We are planning an open house in the next couple months so stay tuned for more information on a date, time, and location of that engagement opportunity.

We are currently in the process of awarding a Professional Service Agreement to a multidisciplinary firm for the Design and Engineering of the project. Once a contract is awarded, we'll begin the Inventory and Analysis part of the project and identify opportunities for community engagement.
