A woman was shot and killed in Saint Paul’s Payne-Phalen neighborhood Wednesday night—and now homicide investigators with the city’s police department are working to find out who pulled the trigger and why.
Callers to the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center reported a shooting on the 1000 block of Payne Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. Officers rushed to the scene and found a woman inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.
The officers rendered aid and called for Saint Paul Fire medics, who responded and transported the victim to Regions Hospital. She died a short time later.
Patrol officers are currently holding the scene while investigators with the police department’s homicide, video management and forensic services units respond to look for possible witnesses, find surveillance video and collect evidence.
As of Wednesday night, no arrests have been made and no motive for the shooting has been determined.
Anyone with information should call 651-266-5650.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the woman’s exact cause of death and positively identify her. This information, along with any updates in the case, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.
This is the seventh homicide this year in Saint Paul.
