An afternoon shooting in Saint Paul’s Macalester-Groveland neighborhood left a man dead Monday, July 26.
Officers were called to the 1700 block of St. Clair Avenue just before 1:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired. That’s where they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds who was inside a vehicle.
The officers secured the scene, rendered aid and called for St. Paul Fire medics, who arrived quickly. They transported the victim to Regions Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Now, investigators with the police department’s homicide unit are working to locate any possible witnesses and determine who pulled the trigger. Members of the forensics services unit will process the area for evidence, and the video management unit will begin looking for nearby surveillance cameras.
As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Preliminary information indicates the shooting was not random, but until the person or people involved are located investigators will not be able to determine a motive.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call 651-266-5650.
The victim’s identity, along with any updates in the case, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.
This is the 14th homicide this year in Saint Paul.
