Saint Paul police are investigating after two people were killed in two separate early morning shootings Sunday, Aug. 29.
The first victim, a man in his 30’s, arrived at Regions Hospital in a private vehicle at about 12:15 a.m. He was suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound and was rushed to surgery. Sadly, he died a short time later. Officers at the hospital detained the person who drove the victim to Regions and secured the vehicle, which had bullet holes in its windshield.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting occurred in a parking ramp on the 400 block of Jackson Street. Investigators with the police department’s homicide, forensic services and video management unit are processing the scene for evidence and looking for possible witnesses.
A motive in this case has not been determined, although investigators do not believe it was a random shooting. No arrests have been made.
The second victim was located at about 3:15 a.m. on Raspberry Island after someone called 911 to report a robbery and a shooting. Officers rushed to the scene and found a male in his 20’s suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was sitting inside a vehicle, where officers rendered aid and called for St. Paul Fire medics. The victim was rushed to Regions, where he died a short time later.
The scene is currently being held by patrol officers until a team of homicide investigators and the forensic services units can respond.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting occurred during a robbery. No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning.
Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call 651-266-5650.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies to positively identify the victims and determine their exact causes of death. That information, along with any updates in the cases, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.
These are the 19th and 20th homicides of the year in the city.
