Investigators with the Saint Paul Police Department Homicide Unit are searching for the person responsible for an early morning shooting that left an adult male dead on Sunday, June 11.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Rice Street at about 1:40 a.m. on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male lying on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The officers immediately rendered aid and called for Saint Paul Fire medics, who arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.  

Homicide Investigators and patrol officers canvassed the area and brought several witnesses to police headquarters, where they are currently being interviewed. Based on preliminary information gathered from witnesses, investigators do not believe the shooting was random.

The department’s Forensic Services Unit has processed the scene, and the Ramsey County medical examiner has taken possession of the victim’s body.  

The victim’s age, identity and cause of death will be released via the department’s Twitter account, @SPPDpio, once the medical examiner has completed an autopsy.

This is the 12th homicide of the year in Saint Paul, 10 of which have involved guns.
