At about 7:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Hazelwood Street and Maryland Avenue East after multiple 911 callers and an officer on patrol reported hearing shots fired in the area. These calls eventually led officers to the 1200 block of Hazelwood Street where three teenage female victims were located. All three were suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. Saint Paul officers rendered first aid to all three victims and called for medics to respond. All three victims were transported by Saint Paul Fire medics to Regions Hospital. One of the female victims was pronounced dead at Regions Hospital. The injuries to the other two are not considered life-threatening.
Saint Paul officers secured the scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. Investigators with the police department's homicide unit are currently working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible. In addition, members of the video management unit are looking for any surveillance video that could help determine what happened.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine her exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.
This is the 27th homicide of 2023 in Saint Paul.
