One man is dead and another is in serious condition after shots were fired outside a convenience store in Saint Paul’s North End neighborhood.
Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Maryland Avenue West at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, March 31, after multiple people called the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center to report shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found two men believed to be in their early 20s suffering from gunshot wounds—one lying in the street, another in a vehicle a short distance away. The officers secured the scene, began rendering aid to the victims and called for Saint Paul Fire medics.
Medics quickly arrived and pronounced the man in the street dead. The man in the vehicle was transported to Regions Hospital, where he was rushed to surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.
Homicide investigators were called in and began looking for possible witnesses. Members of the Forensics Services unit will also respond to process the scene for evidence.
As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call 651-266-5650.
The Ramsey County medical examiner will positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.
This is the 12th homicide of 2022 in Saint Paul.
