Notice of Open Appointments to Saint Paul Chief of Police Examining Committee

SAINT PAUL (MN)Today, the Saint Paul City Council announces the launch of its application process for the Saint Paul Chief of Police Examining Committee (Committee). The Committee is an advisory board appointed by the City Council that is responsible for reviewing applications for the Chief of Police position and, ultimately, recommending a pool of five candidates to the Mayor. The Mayor will then appoint the city’s next Chief of Police for a 6-year term starting in late June of 2022 from these five candidates.

The Committee’s role is specific and is defined by the City Charter. The Committee is only one of many engagement opportunities for community members to weigh in on the Chief of Police selection process; there will be meetings, surveys, and community forums as well. Community members are encouraged to apply for a seat on the Examining Committee and/or consider one of the many other ways to engage in the process.

The online application process for a seat on the Committee will be open from March 9 - March 24, 2022. The Council anticipates the Committee will begin meeting once per week starting in mid-April 2022 until the time that they have completed their work of recommending candidates to the Mayor, ideally by the end of May 2022.
