Saint Paul police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot and killed early Friday morning.
Someone called the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center at about 3:10 a.m. to report a person lying on the sidewalk in front of a building on the 600 block of Dale Street North.
When Saint Paul Fire medics arrived, they found a man believed to be in his 50s who was deceased. Because it wasn’t immediately clear what caused the man’s death, medics called for police officers, who responded, secured the scene and began looking for possible evidence.
The Ramsey County medical examiner conducted an autopsy to determine a cause of death—and it was discovered he’d been shot.
Now homicide investigators are working to find the person or people responsible for his death. Members of the video management unit are looking for any surveillance video that could help determine what happened. The forensics services unit are processing the scene. And investigators are asking anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.
At this time, no arrests have been made. Investigators do not believe the shooting was random.
Family notifications are currently being made. Once that process is complete, the victim’s name, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.
This is the 21st homicide in the city this year.
