Saint Paul police have cordoned off a large area just east of Lewis Park after a man was shot and killed Monday night.
Patrol officers responded to reports of shots fired on the 800 block of Albemarle Street just after 10:30 p.m. and quickly made their way to the scene. When they arrived, the officers found a man lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. They rendered aid, secured the scene and called St. Paul Fire medics, who pronounced the victim dead a short time later.
As officers worked to console a large group that gathered, investigators with the police department’s homicide unit began looking for possible witnesses. Members of the forensic services unit will be collecting evidence, and the video management unit will collect any surveillance video that could help identify anyone who may have been involved.
As of early Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made and no motive has been determined. Preliminary information indicates the shooting was not random. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call 651-266-5650.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine an exact cause of death. That information, along with any updates in the case, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.
This is the 18th homicide this year in Saint Paul.
