Saint Paul police homicide investigators are working to find the person or people who assaulted and killed a man Monday evening in the city’s North End neighborhood.
Officers were dispatched to an apartment building on the 100 block of Winnipeg Avenue just after 5:30 p.m. after someone called the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center to report an assault.
When they arrived, the officers found a man believed to be in his 40s suffering from a fatal wound. Officers rendered aid and called medics, who arrived a short time later and attempted to save the man’s life. His injuries were too significant, and he died at the scene.
Investigators with the police department's homicide unit are currently working to determine what led to the assault and who is responsible for the death. In addition, members of the video management unit are looking for any surveillance video that could help determine what happened.
At this time, no arrests have been made. Investigators do not believe the stabbing was random and are asking anyone with information to call them at 651-266-5650.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.
This is the 20th homicide in the city this year.
