At about 5:15 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Dale Street North on a report of person shot. When officers arrived, they found a chaotic scene and learned that five people had been shot. Officers requested Saint Paul Fire medics to respond to the scene but were informed some of the injured people were transported to local hospitals in private vehicles. One adult male was pronounced dead by Saint Paul Fire medics and another adult male was pronounced dead at United Hospital after arriving in a private vehicle.
Two victims are being treated at Regions Hospital. One is an adult male is in critical condition and the other is an adult female is in stable condition. One adult female is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at United Hospital. All the victims had apparent gunshot injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting occurred in the parking lot on the 500 block of Dale Street North after a celebration of life event that was attended by many people. At the conclusion of the event, an altercation occurred, and shots were fired in the lot. Investigators with the police department’s homicide unit will be interviewing witnesses to understand what occurred and who is responsible. The forensic services and video management units are processing the scene for evidence to tell a story of what occurred.
A motive in this case has not been determined, although investigators do not believe it was a random shooting. No arrests have been made.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies to positively identify the victims and determine their exact causes of death. That information, along with any updates in the case, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.
These are 4th and 5th homicides of 2023.
