One man is injured and another dead after a volley of gunshots rang out early this morning on the 800 block of Grand Avenue in Saint Paul. That’s where officers responding to a report of shots fired and two down found the victims just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.
Both victims were lying in the street when officers arrived. Bystanders were performing CPR on a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was not breathing and unconscious. The second victim, an adult male, also appeared to have been shot, although his injuries did not seem as dire.
St. Paul Fire medics quickly responded and pronounced the first victim dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to Regions Hospital, where he is being treated and is expected to survive.
The shooting happened in the area between Victoria Street and S. Avon Street, which is currently closed to pedestrians and vehicles as members of the Homicide, Forensic Services and Video Management units work to identify possible witnesses and collect evidence.
At this time, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and no arrests have been made. Investigators ask anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.
Once the scene has been processed, the Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine an exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.
This is the 25th homicide of the year in Saint Paul.
