About Highland Park

Highland Park, the namesake of Saint Paul's Highland Park neighborhood, features a wide variety of amenities, including play areas, picnic areas, the Highland Park Aquatic Center, Highland National (18 Hole) Golf Course,  Highland 9-Hole Golf Course, Highland Park Disc/Frisbee Golf, Circus Juventas, and much more. Golf

Highland Park is home to the Highland 9-Hole Golf Course and the Highland National (18 Hole) Golf Course.​

Disc Golf Course

The Highland Disc Golf Course is free to use and open from sunrise to sunset. You must provide your own discs. NOTE: Discs must remain within course area. Please be respectful of pedestrians, cars and nearby residents. Gameplay on roads, parking lots or trails is not allowed and will result in loss of course privileges. 
 

Highland Park Aquatic Center

Highland Park Aquatic Center offers a two-story water slide, lap swim pool, children's splash pad, diving boards, aquatic climbing wall, party rentals, concessions, swimming lessons and more. For more information visit the Highland Park Aquatic Center website.

Rentals and Reservations

Please call the Park Permit Office at 651-266-6400 for more information or to make a reservation.  Office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The possession and consumption of non-intoxicating and intoxicating malt liquor (containing not more than 5.5% alcohol by weight) is permitted from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. within designated picnic areas. Glass beverage containers are not allowed. Barbecue grills are available, and people may bring their own grill for outdoor cooking. Recreational fires are allowed only at the fire ring.

Highland Picnic Pavilion 

(1200 Montreal Ave.) 

Includes a fireplace, kitchen facilities, including sinks, stoves, ovens, and a walk-in cooler. The pavilion has roll-up doors which can be left open or pulled down in case of weather. It also offers an indoor/outdoor fireplace.  This pavilion seats approximately 200 people. The Children's Play Area is located on the North side of the park near the shelter area.

Highland Shelter 

(1227 Montreal Ave.) 

Seats approximately 50 people. Electricity is available at a 110 volts. Multiple crock pots, coffee pots, roasters and other electric items may cause overloads on the power source.

Booya Shed 

Host your next booya event in Highland Park. Electricity is in the booya shed available. 

Old Highland Pool House

Originally built in 1936 by the Works Progress Administration, the pool house is located on the Highland Park Disc Golf Course on the corner of Montreal Ave. and Edgcumbe Rd. The Friends of Highland Arts and Highland District Council are currently working with Saint Paul Parks and Recreation to help guide the future of this building. 

The City of Saint Paul, Minnesota, through its Department of Parks and Recreation, is seeking a qualified management partner for Highland Park Pool House. Proposals are due by 4pm on February 3, 2023. 

History

Highland Park was acquired by the City in 1925 largely due to the efforts of Commissioner of Parks Herman Wenzel. Undeveloped when it was purchased, within seven years Highland Park featured an 18-hole golf course, 10 tennis courts, a picnic area, football and baseball grounds. It also sported a stadium seating 2,700 people, an artificial "swimming hole" and a new clubhouse/reception facility proclaimed the best of its kind in the Northwest. Many of those facilities, either rebuilt or renovated, still stand today.
