Highland Water Tower Reconditioning

The Highland Park Water Tower site in Saint Paul includes two modern water towers alongside the historic tower built in 1928. These newer towers are painted blue and boast updated designs and features compared to the older tower. They continue to be vital in delivering water to the customers of Saint Paul Regional Water Services.

Project Details

Highland water tower #2 blanketed with large tarps during ongoing work

The Highland #2 and Highland #3 water towers on Snelling Avenue require repair and need to be re-painted. The planned work will prolong the life expectancy of the towers and improve water quality.

Work may include: 

  • Torch cutting and grinding of the surface
  • Welding
  • Reconditing the interior
  • Replacing safety and access equipment
  • Sandblasting
  • Re-painting

Highland #2 Timeline

The Highland #2 work began in May 2024 and is expected to be completed in mid to late-August 2024. The contractor’s work hours are Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with some Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work to be scheduled as needed.

Highland #2 Progress Update

Work progress as of June 17, 2024 on Highland #2 is as follows:

  • Exterior sandblasting is complete
  • Exterior painting is in progress
  • Interior access equipment repair is in progress

Highland #3 Timeline

The Highland #3 work will take place in summer 2025 and include a similar scope of work to Highland #2.
