Police Band

Who We Are

Founded in 1923 by a trio of Saint Paul Police Officers.
Built on traditions, public relations, and musicianship.
Originally all male police officers, included non-law enforcement males in late 1930s; women in late 1960s.
The band continues to have both a concert and marching band since its founding.

- First public concert was at St. Paul’s Rice Park on Aug. 8, 1924 at 11:45 a.m.
- In October 1924, performed for arrival of John Philip Sousa at Saint Paul Union Depot. The band escorted him to the Auditorium where his band performed in-concert.
- Entertained a national and international audience on Dec. 7, 1926 while performing for the Saint Paul Police Officers Ball at the Coliseum Ballroom. The event was aired on WCCO Radio which had strong reception reaching listeners in Quebec, New York City, Philadelphia, Massachusetts, Florida, Montana, and Nebraska.
- The marching band participates in several regional community festival parades annually, with many consisting of long-standing engagements.
- Inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2008
- Received a Unit Citation by the Saint Paul Chief of Police
- Roster of 50 members, both police officers and volunteers
- Rehearsals are most Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., October through May, at Harding High School
