Our Vision for The Heights

Recorded March 15, 2022, this video shares our vision for The Heights, the largest modern-day investment in Saint Paul’s East Side. Now under construction, our City’s new neighborhood has the potential to bring 1,000 new housing units, 1,000 good-paying jobs, and 20 acres of green space available to the public. 

Development Timeline

Housing | 2023–

Lead housing developer Sherman Associates will partner with JO Companies and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to build 1,000+ housing units with options for all ages and all incomes.

Planning and Groundbreaking | 2022–2023

In the summer and fall of 2022, City Council approved the master plan and environmental review for the former Hillcrest Golf Course site, a new neighborhood East Side residents chose to name “The Heights.” Construction began in July 2023.

Community Engagement | 2019–2022

Residents from the East Side and Maplewood met frequently for three years to create a community vision for land use priorities, street and trail networks, open space and neighborhood connections on the former golf course.
