Office, research and development, medical, custom manufacturing, and other light-industrial employment uses are envisioned for the redeveloped Ford Site. Providing a range of employment along with housing and services at the future site will ensure that the site provides good economic value for the City and residents. At full build-out, the site is expected to provide 1,500 jobs.
Jobs
Employment and business recruitment efforts will focus on high-quality jobs that provide good salaries. The City’s goal for the Ford Site is to have family-sustaining jobs secured by a diverse workforce, representative of the people who live throughout the neighborhood, City and metropolitan area.
The City of Saint Paul will support the future property owner in seeking strong employment uses for the site. Other partners that could assist in this effort are the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, GREATER MSP, the Saint Paul Port Authority, the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Highland Business Association.
Tax base
A financial analysis of the potential development estimates that annual tax revenues from the site could increase from $1.1 million today to $22.3 million when development is complete. This is a significant benefit for the City, the county and the school district. Taxes generated from the site will help reduce the tax burden of residents citywide.
