General Information

  • Reservations: See Reserve a Shelter, Pavilion or Building to book a permit.
  • Permit Season: 
    • Shelter and pavilion rentals are available from May 6 - October 6, 2024. 
    • The Newell Park building and Como Streetcar Station are available from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
    • Restrooms may not be available at picnic shelter sites before Memorial Day weekend or after Labor Day weekend. Portable restrooms will be on site. 
  • Rental Sessions: The day is divided into two sessions. If you would like to reserve the entire day, you are required to pay for two sessions.  Please note, setup and cleanup times need to be included in your rental time.
    • ONE SESSION: 8:00 am until 1:30pm OR 2:30pm until 8:00pm
    • TWO SESSIONS (ALL DAY): 8:00 am. until 8:00 pm
  • Tax: All rates (excluding tax-exempt organizations) are subject to state and local sales tax.
  • Non-Profit/Tax Exempt: Non-Profit/Tax Exempt rates are available to groups who provide proper documentation of such status at the time the permit is issued. Organizations claiming tax-exempt status must complete a Minnesota ST3 form
  • Additional Fees: See below for additional fees for tents, rides, large games, inflatables, pony rides, petting zoos and groups of 100 or more.

Rental Rates & Facility Details

  • All rates (excluding tax-exempt organizations) are subject to state and local sales tax.
  • Don't see your location? Only locations reservable through the Parks Permit Office are listed below. If a location or facility is not listed below, it may be reservable through our Harriet Island Office, our Recreation Centers, or one of our partner organizations. Additional Fees

Changes and Cancellations

  • No refunds will be issued if request is made less than 30-days prior to the event date.
  • Permits less than $150.00 will not receive a refund.
  • Permits $150.00 and over will receive 50% of the permit fee paid.
  • No refunds are given due to weather conditions. 
  • If a permit is issued less than 30 days of an event, and the permit is canceled, the permit fee is non-refundable.
  • Changes to date or location of a permit will be accepted up to 7 business days prior to the scheduled date of the event. There will be a $25.00 charge each time you alter your picnic permit (time session change, date change, location change).
