On November 6, 1854, Pioneer Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 was formed with a volunteer crew of 18 men; so started the proud tradition of organized fire companies in the City of Saint Paul. This tradition and pride has been earned at a very high cost in terms of personal injury and death.
