Saint Paul City Council Meetings Now Live on YouTube

Saint Paul, MN – The City of Saint Paul announced last week that public meetings of the Saint Paul City Council are now available as live streams on the City’s official YouTube channel at YouTube.com/stpaulgov. The expansion includes meetings held when the Council convenes as the Library Board or the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA), as well as Council committees.

The YouTube live stream joins the City's existing broadcast infrastructure, giving Saint Paul residents more ways to watch their local government in action — without needing cable access or a trip to City Hall.

City Council meetings are where Saint Paul's most consequential decisions are made — from the annual budget to housing policy to library services. Streaming those meetings on YouTube removes barriers for residents who want to stay informed and engaged. Anyone with an internet connection can watch live, and recorded meetings remain available on the channel for on-demand viewing after the fact.

“Making Council meetings available live and on YouTube is an exciting step forward for transparency and public access in Saint Paul, and I’m glad we’re expanding the ways residents can engage with and follow the work of their City Council,” said Council President Rebecca Noecker.

“I strongly support expanding public access to our meetings through YouTube live streaming. Many of the City’s most important discussions — on housing, economic development, and the budget — happen during HRA and committee meetings, and residents deserve the ability to follow those conversations in real time,” said HRA Chair and Councilmember Cheniqua Johnson. “This is an important step toward greater transparency, accessibility, and civic engagement, helping more residents stay informed and connected to local government.”

The YouTube platform supports closed captioning, making live and archived Council meetings more accessible to residents who are deaf or hard of hearing — an important step toward meeting the highest standards for digital government content. Residents using screen readers or other assistive technologies can also navigate YouTube's interface with greater ease than legacy broadcast platforms.

Residents can watch live and past meetings at YouTube.com/stpaulgov. Meeting schedules are available at StPaul.gov
