Saint Paul City Council to Honor the Lives and Legacy of Mark and Melissa Hortman
Saint Paul, MN - The Saint Paul City Council will honor the lives and legacy of Mark, Melissa, and Gilbert Hortman through Resolution 26-946, which proclaims June 14, 2026, as Mark, Melissa, and Gilbert Hortman Day in Saint Paul.
The resolution will be introduced by Councilmember HwaJeong Kim with expected remarks from Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, House DFL Leader Zach Stephenson, Mayor Kaohly Her, and Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega.
The hearing will bring together elected officials, colleagues, and community members to reflect on the Hortman family's lasting impact on Minnesota. The resolution honors Melissa Hortman's decades of public service and leadership, including her historic tenure as Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, and recognizes the contributions she made to Minnesota families across the state. The resolution also honors Mark Hortman and the family's shared commitment to service and volunteerism.
Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved golden retriever, Gilbert, were tragically assassinated in a politically motivated attack at their home on June 14, 2025. The resolution recognizes the profound loss felt by family, friends, colleagues, and communities across Minnesota and honors the enduring contributions Mark and Melissa Hortman made through a lifetime of service to others.
The Saint Paul City Council will hear Resolution 26-946 during its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Saint Paul City Hall.
