'Be the Solution’ Initiative Aims to Increase Safety in Roadways, Promote Solutions for Neighbors in Need
New roadway signage encourages drivers to direct their generosity toward efforts that enhance long-term support
SAINT PAUL – Today, the City of Saint Paul is launching the Be the Solution campaign, a citywide initiative that will transform individual acts of charity into collective action to support lasting change among residents in need. The initiative also expands on the city’s efforts to maintain safe roadways for everyone.
"We’re committed to increasing safety and reducing accidents across our community by implementing positive solutions,” said Deputy Mayor Jaime Tincher. “This initiative is a step forward in protecting everyone, while at the same time, investing in more ways to support our neighbors.”
Public Works Street Maintenance crews are installing new signage at several high-traffic intersections to raise awareness of the safety concerns associated with both pedestrians and drivers stopping in the public right-of-way to ask or administer assistance.
“By installing this signage, we are taking important steps to ensure that all residents, whether they are walking, biking, driving, or taking public transit, can navigate our streets safely,” said Public Works Director Sean Kershaw.
The initiative encourages alternate ways to better support neighbors experiencing hardships by donating to the campaign. The donations will be distributed to various local service providers through Ramsey County’s Heading Home Ramsey Continuum of Care and will be used to fund critical services and support to better serve the city’s most vulnerable neighbors.
