National Great River Road Scenic Byway
Overview
The Great River Road National Scenic Byway runs through Saint Paul and brings visitors from across the country to experience the entire city. With a grant from the National Scenic Byway Program, the Parks Department will be installing a series of interpretive panels describing the history of various locations along the Mississippi River. The panels include both descriptive text and historic photographs and maps to help the Byway visitor and St. Paul residents broaden their understanding of the local history.

In addition to the interpretive history panels, a series (4) of small kiosks will be constructed to display wayfinding maps and additional interpretive information. these kiosks will be replicated in future projects, as part of the Saint Paul Grand Round bicycle and pedestrian trail. The kiosk maps will be lighted with a photovoltaic powered system to provide additional visibility for wayfinding. The funds for the photovoltaic system are from a State DNR Outdoor Legacy Solar grant.

The Sign and Kiosk project is scheduled for bidding in August, 2011 with a late fall construction schedule; weather and favorable bidding permitting.
