Saint Paul aspires to be “The Most Livable City in America” and the broad objective is to ensure that “livability” encompasses economic sustainability. Our economic future is built on the foundation of the City's strengths - a well-educated and creative workforce, sound infrastructure, and local businesses rich with growth potential.

Our Planning & Economic Development staff facilitates a wealth of business programs and services designed to help businesses develop and succeed in the City of Saint Paul that include:
  • Providing financial and technical assistance to commercial businesses, non-profit organizations, developers and neighborhood groups
  • Assisting developers with the redevelopment, rehabilitation and contamination cleanup of commercial properties
  • Collaborating with our partners on economic development initiatives in an effort to stabilize commercial areas and neighborhoods

Relying on Partnerships to Leverage Limited Resources
Saint Paul is fortunate to have a strong tradition of collaboration among various sectors and institutions. Ensuring the economic stability of the City of Saint Paul requires all stakeholders to work together, sharing responsibility for achievement of the overall objectives.

The established formal partnership among the City, Saint Paul Port Authority, Capital City Partnership, Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation and Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, is essential to achieving the economic development goals outlined in the Economic Development Strategy.

Accomplishing our economic development goals also relies on scores of other partners including colleges, training institutions, community development corporations, ethnic business groups, business associations.
