The number of foreclosures throughout the nation has been on the rise in recent years. Between 2005 and 2006, the Twin Cities seven-county metro area experienced an 89% increase in the number of sheriff's sales, a leading indicator of local foreclosures. Residents have purchased homes and refinanced into mortgage products they don't fully understand and can not afford. The City of Saint Paul is fully aware of these trends and is actively involved in addressing these issues.
