How do I find my property line?
The most accurate way to find your property line is to hire a private surveyor. The Mapping and Records group in Technical Services has access to a variety of maps that will help you estimate the location of your property line. Where do I get a City map?
The City of Saint Paul street map is available through our website as a PDF, or you may visit the Technical Services office in person to purchase a copy. Technical Services is located on the 10th floor of the City Hall Annex at 25 West 4th Street in downtown Saint Paul. For more information, please call the Service Desk at 651-266-6150.

Please visit the MetroGIS website for geospatial data related to the seven-county Twin Cities Metropolitan Area for more information.

How do I find my property line?
The most accurate way to find your property line is to hire a private surveyor. What is an encroachment? and do I need a permit?
An encroachment is when an adjacent property owner uses the public right-of-way for purposes that cannot be reasonably satisfied on private property. Examples of encroachments are fences, rain gardens, house number signs, private utilities, areaways, building footings, tunnels, driveways, loading platforms, and stairs.

Where can I get a map of Ramsey County, Minneapolis, or the surrounding areas?
Technical Services only handles maps that are within the City Limits of Saint Paul.
Maps of Ramsey County are available through Ramsey County Public Works. The maps are available online or call Ramsey County Public Works for more information at 651-266-7100.
Minneapolis maps are available from the City of Minneapolis GIS online, or call 612-673-2431.
For all other surrounding areas of the Twin Cities, please contact the local government agency.

Where can I see the original building plans of my house or business?
Technical Services does not keep building plans for structures in Saint Paul. The Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) may have building plans for commercial structures stored in the archives; they may be contacted through the City of Saint Paul website or at 651-266-8989.
The Ramsey County Historical Society is another source of information. They are located in the Landmark Center at 75 West 5th Street in downtown Saint Paul, and the contact phone number is 651-222-0701.
The Minnesota Historical Society located at 345 West Kellogg Blvd. has a library that is open to the public, they can be contacted at 651-259-3000.

Where do I get a Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, or Marriage Certificate?
The Minnesota Department of Health keeps these records. Please visit their website for information on how to obtain a copy of a certificate or call the Office of the State Registrar at 651-201-5970.

How do I get an address?
The Department of Public Works assigns all the house numbers in the City of Saint Paul. Before contacting Technical Services regarding a new address or change of address request, please gather the following information: the current address being used - if known, the nearest cross street, the nearest neighbor's address, the reason for the request, and a sketch of the building that shows the entrances and streets.
To submit a request in writing, please detail the above listed information in a letter and send to the Technical Services Division with a sketch.
