Description of Work
General Duty Statement

Performs supervisory and highly skilled administrative work providing staff assistance to management in reviewing, analyzing and coordinating department operations; directs special projects as assigned; and performs other related duties as required.

Supervision Received

Works under general supervision of a department or office director or division manager.

Supervision Exercised

May exercise technical supervision over lower-level support, technical, or professional staff.

Typical Duties Performed

  • Performs research, planning, problem solving and program evaluation; prepares reports and recommendations.
  • Reviews operating procedures; develops, recommends and implements new or modified methods and procedures.
  • Provides general or technical information regarding departmental functions and policy to the public and state and local agencies; supplies information requested by the City Council, Mayor's Office and other City departments.
  • Assists in developing long range plans for departmental programs and projects.
  • Schedules and conducts departmental staff meetings.
  • Directs special administrative or operating projects as assigned by the department director.
  • Discusses plans, programs, objectives and procedures with division managers, and makes recommendations to the department director.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree and six years of experience in administrative work, at least two years of which must have been in a responsible administrative capacity.
