Description of Work
General Duty Statement
Helps perform entry-level parking enforcement work, enforcing statutory vehicle registration laws and parking regulation ordinance violations. With approval of assigned Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO), helps write, issue, and record summonses related to parking violations, including emergency, tow-away, truck, or rush-hour zones and obstruction of building entrances or fire hydrants. Assists with monitoring of parking meters and parking regulation signage, reporting any inoperative meters or sign damage observed to assigned PEO. Provides information to the public concerning parking regulations, building locations, directions, and other requested information. Performs related duties as required.

Works under the close supervision of a unit supervisor.

- Demonstrates an ability to gain an understanding of the statutory and local parking rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to parking violation enforcement, including an understanding of common terms, principles, and practices used. Demonstrates an ability to apply this understanding to resolve basic issues related to parking enforcement.
- Demonstrates an ability to ask questions, use resources provided, and employ creative problem-solving strategies to address basic and routine complaints or process informational requests. Demonstrates an ability to learn from successes and mistakes and address more complex and difficult issues, complaints, or informational requests over time.

Demonstrates an ability to learn to proficiently operate a two-way radio and safely operate a motorized vehicle.

Requirements
- Must be at least eighteen years of age.
- Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. The driver's license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the two-year period prior to the date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.
- Must be an active participant in the Saint Paul Police Department Explorer Program.
