Description of Work
General Duty Statement
Under supervision, to be trained in painting and related work, including new construction, maintenance or repair of existing property, removal or abatement or graffiti, and other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
Works under the close supervision of a unit supervisor.
Supervision Exercised
None.
Typical Duties Performed
The listed examples may not include all the duties performed by all positions in this class.
- In the capacity of a trainee:
- Paint or maintain surfaces of various city owned property including but not limited to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, bridges, and other city property.
- Paint over or otherwise abate graffiti on any surfaces, public or private, located in the city, as part of the city's graffiti removal program. This work may include using chemicals or specialized equipment to remove graffiti.
- Operate city or other motor vehicles needed to transport the employee, equipment and supplies to locations as assigned.
- Maintain work logs and records to establish work performed, materials used and general accountability.
- Operate other specialized equipment as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies
Requirements
Enrollment in an approved painters apprenticeship program, a showing of satisfactory attendance and progress in such a program, and successful completion of the program in a reasonable period of time.
Maintain a valid drivers license valid for the class of city vehicles operated.
Successful completion of the Painter Trainee Program at St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute or an equivalent training program. Must be an indentured and registered apprentice painter with the State of Minnesota.
