Description of Work
General Duty Statement
Under supervision, performs intermediate level work in the drafting and preparation of plans, details, and specifications of public buildings; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received
Works under the close supervision of a unit supervisor.

Typical Duties Performed
The listed examples may not include all the duties performed by all positions in this class.
- Assists architects by producing finished drawings from architect's drawings.
- Develops and writes specifications for minor construction projects from design information.
- Drafts "as built" drawings from field measurements.
- Maintains up-to-date files of drawings, plans, as-builts, etc.
- Prepares follow-up letters, change orders, estimates, and other materials related to the architectural projects.
- Oversees minor construction and remodeling projects; maintains necessary contact with contractors and conducts on-site visits.
Competencies
- Considerable knowledge of drafting techniques, presentation drawings, and mechanical detail drawings.
- Working knowledge of office procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Some knowledge of automated drafting techniques and systems (CADD).
- Some knowledge of construction practices and materials.
- Considerable ability to draw up plans and details for new or remodeled buildings, portions of buildings or systems.
- Considerable ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Requirements
Two years of vocational training in drafting or equivalent; and two years of experience in architectural drafting as an Architectural Drafter Trainee, Engineering Aide II, Valuation and Assessment Aide II, or equivalent.
