Mayor Coleman’s statement regarding location change of Dorothy Day Center ReVision
Mayor Chris Coleman released the following statement today regarding the proposed location change of the Dorothy Day Center ReVision:

“The task force I asked to provide recommendations for critically needed changes to the Dorothy Day Center – led by Saint Paul Foundation President Carleen Rhodes and Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Kramer – did a tremendous job in a short period of time to complete its work in advance of the 2014 legislative session. The core recommendations of the Dorothy Day Center ReVision —permanent housing, dignified shelter, and connections to services and opportunities to prevent and end homelessness—have received enthusiastic, bipartisan and statewide support from many people. We are confident that, with time, concerns about the proposed location could have been resolved. Unfortunately, we don’t have the amount of time necessary to resolve these concerns.

“Consequently, last week I convened task force leaders Carleen Rhodes, Matt Kramer and Catholic Charities CEO Tim Marx. We agreed that changing the location for the central elements of the ReVision to a site at or near the current Dorothy Day Center would allow the ReVision to move forward with the urgency required.

“This change allows all of the stakeholders, who understand that homelessness is a statewide problem and requires a statewide strategy, to now unite and build a public-private partnership to advance the Dorothy Day ReVision as a key element to preventing and ending homelessness in Minnesota,” Mayor Chris Coleman said.
