Tomes also spent more than a decade working in the private sector.
“Tarek’s experience at the state, as well as his significant experience managing complex issues in the private sector, will be critical assets for our technology department,” Mayor Coleman said. “The city is currently in the midst of implementing many technology improvements, and Tarek’s strategic and innovative leadership will be key to their success.”
Tomes earned a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Management from the University of Maryland, University College and has done graduate work at Boston University. He will assume his duties as CIO on February 24, 2014.
