On October 31, the Como Park Senior High School Cougars captured the school’s first state championship when they clinched the title in a 2-1 victory over Hill-Murray. On Wednesday, Mayor Coleman joined Superintendent Valeria Silva to congratulate the boys’ soccer team on their win. Mayor Coleman declared November 7, 2013 to be “Como Park Senior High School Boys’ Soccer Day” in the City of Saint Paul.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, on Thursday, October 31, 2013, the Como Park Senior High School boys’ soccer team made history with a 2-1 victory over Hill-Murray in the Class A Championship game at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome; and
WHEREAS, the Como Cougars now claim their first state team sport championship in the school’s history and we congratulate them for their third Saint Paul City Conference Championship in the past five years; and
WHEREAS, the Como Cougars have made their second consecutive Section Championship and State Tournament appearances, and first State Championship in Boys Soccer in an undefeated season; and
WHEREAS, Como Park proudly represented their school, neighborhood and all of Saint Paul Public Schools at the state championship with class, dignity, outstanding teamwork and determination; and
WHEREAS, we commend Como Park Boys’ Soccer for uniting the diverse cultures of Saint Paul together through the beautiful game of soccer,
Now, Therefore, I, Christopher B. Coleman, Mayor of the City of Saint Paul, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 7, 2013 to be:
Como Park Senior High School Boys’ Soccer Day in the City of Saint Paul.
