Outdoor Range
Range history and information
The St. Paul Police Department's outdoor range facility is located on Linwood Ave. in Maplewood.  The range has been in use since the mid-1950's, includes a small classroom and has been updated over the years in relation to target systems, protective walls and canopies. The range includes two live fire ranges that allow officers to fire at distances of two yards to 100 yards. The range facility also includes a small training "village" that allows non-live fire training and the use of vehicles on a simulated street with buildings.

The range facility is primarily used by the Saint Paul Police Department, but is also used by the Maplewood Police Department and other agencies on a limited basis. The Saint Paul Police Department conducts handgun, shotgun and patrol rifle training and qualification shoots throughout the year, as well as a precision rifle qualification one day per month. Range staff members also conduct training for outside agencies throughout the year.  This training usually consists of one or two day blocks of instruction.

The range is staffed by multiple officers and operates from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Live fire shooting noise can be expected from the range on weekdays between these hours, however, training does not occur everyday. Due to the changing nature of the training schedule, there may be periods of time in which there is no live fire going on.

Live fire training begins no earlier than 7:30 a.m. with no live fire training conducted on holidays or weekends.
