Mayor Coleman and wife Connie launch Holiday Buy Local initiative
Colemans urge residents to visit local businesses around Saint Paul as holiday season begins

Mayor Chris Coleman and his wife Connie kicked off the holiday shopping season today with the launch of the Holiday Buy Local initiative at Victoria Crossing in Saint Paul. The Colemans emphasized the abundance of local retailers across the city, pointing to shops near Victoria Crossing as an example of the reasons to skip the busy mall this year and visit the many great local retailers that Saint Paulites can find in their backyard.

“Our local businesses are the foundation of our economy, and it is essential we support them, particularly during the busy holiday shopping season,” Mayor Coleman said. “Retailers across Saint Paul are diverse, unique and affordable. It has never been easier for Saint Paul residents to support local businesses and I urge residents do so in the coming weeks.”

“Whether you’re visiting Garden of Eden for some bath and body care products or shopping at Eclipse Records for some vintage vinyl, Saint Paul’s wide-ranging selection of stores and shops has something for everyone,” Connie Coleman said.

The Holiday Buy Local launch, sponsored by Metro IBA, Buy Local Twin Cities and Karma Boutique, is one of the many events highlighting the opportunities for Saint Paul residents to support their local businesses this holiday season.

Businesses along the Central Corridor (Green Line) are sponsoring “Go Green Saturday” on Saturday, November 24. The initiative, meant to support businesses impacted by light rail construction, will offer festivities from hayrides to carolers, from kids’ games to holiday movies. Participating businesses along the Green Line will join in the spirit by hosting activities such as face painting, balloon animals, hot cider and hot chocolate, music and games.
