Highland Block Nurse Program

The Highland Block Nurse Program is looking for volunteers to help area citizens. The following opportunities are available:

  • Provide a ride to/from an appointment or help run errands
  • Grocery shop for home-bound residents
  • Friendly visits or regular check-in phone calls

The organization is always looking for community members to become members of their Board. Board Members assist with policy issues, program promotion and fundraising.

Macalester-Summit Hill Living at Home Program

The Macalester-Summit Hill Living at Home Program is looking for volunteers to help area citizens. The following opportunities are available:

  • Friendly Visitor: Visit older adults in their own home, provide companionship and socialization and possibly take seniors out for recreation and activities.
  • Caregiver/Respite: Provide relief for a family caregiver to get away for a couple of hours while providing companionship and non-medical care for a homebound senior.
  • Transportation: Provide transportation for older adults to medical and dental appointments using your car.
  • Shopping: Take an older adult shopping or run short errands them such as grocery, personal or pharmacy needs.
  • Handyman: Provide minor in-home repairs as needed and on-call.
  • Gardening: Help with garden needs; planting, weeding, watering and maintaining gardens for seniors.
  • Other Opportunities: Help with office and clerical duties as needed, bulk-mailings, newsletters, or special event planning.

Merrick Community Services offers opportunities to help neighborhood Seniors through their Senior Services. They are looking for volunteers to help with Meals on Wheels and Chore Services.
