Bird and Bike
Date: Friday June 15, 2012
Location: Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary Parking Lot
Join the Saint Paul Audubon Society, Lower Phalen Creek Project, and Saint Paul Parks to kick off the 2012 Urban Birding Festival with a Bird and Bike experience! This leisurely bike ride will be led by members of the Saint Paul Audubon Society, and the relaxed pace will leave plenty of time for looking at birds. Bird and Bike will begin at the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary and offer two ride routes.
: Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary to Phalen Lake (round trip approx 1 hour)
: Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary to Mounds Bluff (round trip approx 1 hour)
You can choose to bird and bike only one route or both routes.
We can accommodate 14 people. Number of participants will dictate our bird and bike logistics.

Please bring your own bike*, bike helmet, binoculars if you have them, plenty of water, and dress for the weather.
*If you would like to participate but do not have a bike please call to inquire about using a city bike.
Unique Birding Hike at the Como Golf Course (This Hike has been Canceled)
Date: Sunday June 17th , 2012
Time: 6:00 am (Please arrive by 5:50am so that the hike may begin promptly at 6am) – The birding hike will last one hour.
Location: Meet at the Como Golf Course Parking Lot
Minimum # of people: 5
Maximum # of people: 20
Golf courses can be great places for birds! Join a member of the Saint Paul Audubon Society for an hour of birding on the Como Regional Park Golf Course. You will have the rare opportunity to safely hike a golf course, view birds, explore the ways golf courses can provide wildlife habitat, and help check a bluebird box.

Time: 1pm - 1:30pm and 3pm - 3:30pm

NO Registration Required for the outdoor classroom hikes - Just show up!
Join Teri Heyer, US Forest Service educator, for a bird hike though the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom. Find out which birds like oak savannahs, conifer trees, or open grasslands and get in touch with the cultural history of the area by visiting the historic Joyce Kilmer Memorial Fireplace located in the outdoor classroom.
The Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom is 17.75 acres of woodland in Como Park designated as a destination for outdoor and environmental education.
**Severe weather or heavy rain will cancel these hikes** participants will be called an hour before the hike if the weather is questionable.**
