Mayor Coleman promotes President Obama’s Rebuild America Jobs Act
Points to Lafayette Bridge as example of the types of infrastructure and jobs that America needs

SAINT PAUL – Mayor Chris Coleman and others stood in front of the Lafayette Bridge today as an example of the types of infrastructure and jobs that could be created if the Rebuild America Jobs Acts is passed.

“President Obama has put forward common-sense legislation to rebuild our economy and our infrastructure. American families need the jobs and commerce that this Act would provide. The time for partisan bickering is over. We need to move forward to benefit our country,” said Mayor Coleman, who was joined today by MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel, President of the AFL-CIO Shar Knutson and Harry Melander, President of the Minnesota State Building and Trades Council.

The media event took place just in front of the construction work on the Lafayette Bridge. The complete replacement work on that bridge began shortly after the I-35W bridge collapsed and the Lafayette Bridge was classified as “fracture critical.” Mayor Coleman pointed to the work as an example of the infrastructure that could be replaced and jobs that could be created if the Act is passed.

“The Rebuild America Jobs Act is a critical part of our economy’s future,” said Harry Melander, President of the Minnesota State Building and Trades Council. “Both parties need to come together to pass this legislation now.”
