The Saint Paul Police Professional Development Institute (PDI)
is sponsoring a 1-day course in BACKGROUND
INVESTIGATION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY.
This
course will focus on the practical aspect of conducting an investigation as a
part of a pre-employment screening process for all governmental
employees. Topics to be covered include; data practices, collecting
pre-employment information, analyzing and focusing your investigation, legal
issues, identify elements that disqualify candidates and writing an
investigative report.
Sergeant Dan Malmgren is a 22 year veteran of the St
Paul Police Department who currently supervises the Research and Development
Unit. He has taught for numerous
organizations including; the MN Chiefs of Police Association, MN Sheriffs
Association, and the William Mitchell College of Law. He has a Master’s degree in Public
Administration, a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Law Enforcement, a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Physics and Mathematics, and is a graduate of the
Northwestern Staff and Command. Sgt
Malmgren is responsible for the majority of the writing, maintenance and
updates of SPPD’S Policies and Procedures
