History:
Started in 1991 and finished in 1993, this sculpture celebrates the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of Saint Paul.  Ten artists working under the supervision of Cliff Garten collaborated to create this piece.  Using both form and poetry, the Saint Paul Cultural Garden illustrates the tales of the immigrants, both past and present, who have created this city on the Mississippi.  Through it, people from Africa, Central America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Japan share their voices.

Garten received his Master of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design.  He received his Masters of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where, among other places, he also worked as a visiting critic.
