Kastelic Homicide
We seek your assistance in an unsolved homicide.

The Saint Paul Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public in obtaining information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for a homicide that occurred over ten years ago. The details of the case are as follows:

At approximately 5:30 am on Tuesday, April 18, 1989, Mr. Frank Kastelic left his residence, near Mitchell and Battle Creek, driving a gray Buick. At approximately 6:00 am, he was found by a passing motorist, laying on the ground next to his automobile, at the intersection of Algonquin and Stillwater Avenues. He had been shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

From physical evidence and other facts gathered at the scene, it is suspected that there was a minor traffic incident at the intersection, and Mr. Kastelic's automobile was struck from the rear by another automobile as he halted for the stop sign at the intersection. A small trace of orange paint was found on the rear bumper of Mr. Kastelic's automobile. The police investigation identified the paint as the type used on Chevrolet Malibu automobiles. The police investigation also discovered a pedestrian who had been asked for directions to the freeway by the driver of an orange colored Chevrolet Malibu, a few minutes after the shooting occurred and a short distance from where Mr. Kastelic's body was found.

The pedestrian helped the police develop a composite drawing (above) of the person who was driving this vehicle. This pedestrian is the only person who has come forward with any information concerning the possible identity of Mr. Kastelic's killer.

Mr. Kastelic was a father, husband and a very popular school teacher. He and his family had a very conservative life style, and there is no evidence or indication of anything that would connect him to wrong doing and/or other situations that would provide a motive for someone to attack him in this manner.
